After being inspired by Tina's book case post, over at Our Phenomenal Life blog, I quickly organized my list of favourite books taken from my own shelf
I love the feel of hard-bound volumes and glossy pages between my fingers. And there is just something about the scent of paper that reminds me of perfumed trees.
Reading makes me happy. For it takes me to places that I long to be. So, here are the ones that take me far, far away to my dreamland...

Part memoir, part cookbook, Tessa Kiros' Apples For Jam and Falling Cloudberries are chock-full of creative recipes and gorgeous photography.
At one of New York's most fashionable restaurants - Balthazar - great food never goes out of style.
Two of TV's most beloved chefs - Mario Batali and Jamie Oliver - present the most authentic and easily-replicated Italian food. And of course, Mario Batali's Babbo in New York City is my fave restaurant.

It's no big secret that I am just obsessed with interior design. I love this book because it makes monochromatic schemes not-so-boring!
British goddess of interior design, Kelly Hoppen, brings glamour to any home.
Modernist and Minimalist are two ways to describe the apartments shown on this treasure trove of a tome.
Sometimes, I like to imagine my very own stone cottage in Provence, so I always have a French Style design manual lying around. Just in case.
The New Safari combines my dream safari trip and my love for design into one luscious folio.
I have since fallen madly in love with Oriental carpets from Iran, the Caucusus, Turkey, Pakistan, Morocco, and Central Asia. This is my carpet bible.

Always looking for new decor books for inspiration - and these seem great. Equally obsessed with Jamie Oliver - his books are such a helpful (and beautiful) addition to the kitchen!
What a wonderfully visual collection of books! I'm afraid most of my faves contain lots of type and no images although I do go for really vibrant book covers.

Love this post, it's a keeper for sure. I'm a real book lover too. As much time as we spend on our computers and on blogs, I always prefer turning real pages... Thanks for sharing your beautiful collection, excellent photos too.

The Travel Book from Lonely Planet is my very favorite coffee table book. I keep it out all the time and just flip through it looking at all the gorgeous destinaions I need to go. They actually have a compressed version, too, which looks beautiful as well.
What a great idea to post your bookshelf! I have a slight obsession with books as well, so I love looking at people's bookshelves. Recently I've been collecting some cookbooks maybe I'll pick up Mario Batali's Babbo.

Such a terrific idea! Lovely books and photographs. I especially like Jamie Oliver's cook books. (Thanks to him I learnt how to make fresh pasta, and he introduced me to the most scrumptious risotto I've ever tasted.) And LP's The Travel Book looks amazing. Never heard about the Great Escapes series though. Incredibly beautiful images! A very inspiring selection of books I must say! You've inspired me to share my faves.
Beautiful post !! Thanks for sharing !Unseen Rajasthan
Nice photo collages - did you just get photoshop or is that my imagination, or perhaps you are using some other photo editing tool we should know about.
Love Jamie Oliver's new magazine too although probably not out over there - it manages to combine the best of food and travel
